Harrington, DE – Detectives in Kent County say a weekend of repeated gunfire reports ended Monday with the arrest of a Harrington man who allegedly fired multiple shots near occupied homes between Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
According to Delaware State Police, troopers first responded around 9 p.m. on November 29 to the 500 block of Staytonville Road after residents reported shots fired. Witnesses told investigators a small passenger car was seen leaving the area moments after the gunfire. About two hours later, troopers were called back when the same vehicle reportedly returned and a shot was fired toward a residence. Spent shell casings and live rounds were recovered at the scene.
State police say the same vehicle came back again around 5 a.m. on November 30, with additional gunfire reported. By 10:30 a.m., a driver in a similar car was allegedly yelling from the vehicle before leaving the area. No homes were struck, and no injuries were reported.
Through investigative leads, detectives identified a suspect who allegedly searched the area believing a family member was nearby. Police said there was no known connection between the individual and the residents involved.
Troopers arrested the man without incident on November 30 under a separate active warrant. He was charged with possession of a firearm during a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, four counts of aggravated menacing, and four counts of harassment. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $47,000 cash bond.
