Oswego, IL — Residents in unincorporated Oswego Township are being urged to move their vehicles off local roads today as a winter parking ban goes into effect ahead of significant snowfall expected across Kendall County.
According to the Oswego Township Road District, heavy snow and freezing temperatures are forecast to impact the area over the next several days, making road clearing more difficult for plow crews. Officials are reminding residents that Township Ordinance 2018-10 prohibits parking on any roadway during or after a snowfall of 2 inches or more. The rule applies to all unincorporated streets, roads, alleys, highways, and cul-de-sacs within the Highway Commissioner’s jurisdiction.
The restriction remains in place until the lane closest to the curb has been cleared. Passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and trailers are all included under the ordinance.
According to township officials, the goal is to ensure plow trucks can safely navigate narrow streets and maintain access for emergency responders. Any vehicle left on the roadway after two inches of snowfall will be subject to towing at the owner’s expense by either Grants Towing or Kits Towing.
The Road District emphasized that the ordinance will be enforced with a zero-tolerance approach as crews work to keep routes open during the winter storm.
Residents with questions are encouraged to contact the Highway Department at 630-264-4587 for more information.
