Oswego, IL – A 19-year-old man from Kankakee has been charged with multiple felonies, including first-degree murder, following a fatal attack early Wednesday at a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Oswego.
According to the Oswego Police Department, officers were called around 5:00 a.m. on October 22 to the restaurant in the 2700 block of Route 34 after reports of a stabbing in progress. When officers arrived, they found two contracted maintenance workers restraining the suspect, identified as Darryl Lee Jr., 19, of Kankakee.
Police said one of the workers, a 20-year-old man, had been stabbed and was taken to an area hospital, where he remains in stable condition. During a sweep of the building, officers discovered a second victim, identified as 52-year-old Tracey J. Land of Bridgeview, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe Lee broke into the restaurant around 3:10 a.m. and attacked Land, a delivery driver, with a hammer and knife before attempting to clean up the scene. When maintenance workers arrived later, Lee allegedly attacked again before being subdued.
Following consultation with the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office, Lee faces 11 felony charges, including First-Degree Murder, Attempted Murder, Armed Robbery, and Burglary. He remains held at the Kendall County Jail and is due in court Friday, October 24.
Police described the incident as “an unprovoked attack” and credited the bravery of the workers whose actions prevented further harm.
