Yorkville, IL – A Montgomery man was arrested Sunday night after allegedly crashing a pickup truck into multiple vehicles and reportedly attempting to hit a pedestrian in Yorkville, according to police in Kendall County.
According to the Yorkville Police Department, officers were dispatched around 8:40 p.m. Sunday to a business in the 1500 block of Cornelis Road. A witness reported seeing a black Toyota pickup truck allegedly crashing into several vehicles and attempting to strike a pedestrian in the parking lot.
Upon arrival, officers located extensive property damage and several damaged vehicles, but the suspect vehicle had allegedly fled the scene. Police said the Toyota was found about a mile east, off the roadway in a ditch, and appeared to have lost control.
Yorkville Police were assisted by the Plano Police Department and the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office in locating the vehicle and the driver. The suspect, identified as Thomas K. Betsinger, 50, of Montgomery, was found near the Toyota and taken into custody without further incident, police said.
Betsinger was transported to the Kendall County Jail and allegedly charged with aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, attempted reckless homicide, two additional counts of aggravated assault, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to investigators, surveillance video from the business allegedly showed the suspect attempting to strike a pedestrian intentionally multiple times before colliding with two parked vehicles and leaving the area.
Authorities emphasized that all charges are allegations and that Betsinger is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
