Kendall County, IL – Drivers across Illinois will see stepped-up DUI enforcement beginning today as agencies, including the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, participate in the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign running from December 12 through January 5. The holiday effort focuses on reducing impaired driving as travel, gatherings, and late-night celebrations increase across the region.

According to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, deputies will conduct targeted patrols tied to several state-backed initiatives, including “Drive High. Get a DUI,” and “Click It or Ticket.” The campaigns are supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation’s “It’s Not a Game” program, which warns drivers about the risks and consequences of impaired driving.

“This season, let safety be our shared priority,” Undersheriff Bobby Richardson stated. He added that anyone who intends to drink or use impairing substances should plan ahead for a sober ride and always wear a seat belt. Deputies emphasized they will be out in force and that dangerous driving behavior “will not be tolerated.”

To help prevent impaired driving, officials encourage residents to designate a sober driver, use transit or ride-shares, and call 911 if they observe an impaired driver. They also urged motorists to slow down, avoid distractions like texting, and make seat belt use a habit.

The enforcement campaign is funded through federal highway safety grants administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
