Wichita, KS – A Wind Advisory is currently in effect for much of central and southeast Kansas, including Wichita, until 1 AM CDT Wednesday. With winds expected to range from 25 to 35 mph, gusts could reach as high as 50 mph, potentially causing hazardous conditions for drivers and residents.
According to the National Weather Service, strong south winds will blow across the region starting this morning at 10 AM. The gusty winds could impact unsecured objects, with the potential for downed tree limbs and power outages in some areas. These gusts could also create hazardous driving conditions, particularly for high-profile vehicles such as trucks and RVs. Authorities are advising all residents to secure outdoor items and use extra caution on the roads, especially in areas with open fields or on elevated highways where winds could be more intense.
Additionally, a hazardous weather outlook warns of the possibility of severe thunderstorms later today, which could bring damaging winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes. Blowing dust is expected to reduce visibility in parts of central Kansas, creating even more difficult conditions for travel. Spotter activation may also be needed this evening as severe weather develops.
Looking ahead, the wind advisory will expire early tomorrow morning, but the severe weather risk will continue throughout the night, with thunderstorms becoming more likely as the evening progresses.
Extended Weather Forecast
The next several days will bring a mix of rain and cooler temperatures to the region. Wednesday, temperatures will be near 69°F with a chance of isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Thursday and Friday will see temperatures drop to the low 60s, with rain likely, followed by breezy conditions. Stay informed as the weather continues to change, and be sure to prepare for potentially severe conditions as they develop.
