Wichita, Kan. – After a sunny Friday, thunderstorm chances will build across south-central Kansas this weekend, bringing potential travel and outdoor disruptions to Wichita starting late Saturday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, a 40% chance of thunderstorms is expected Saturday night, with the risk increasing to 50% Sunday and holding at 60% through early Monday. High temperatures will reach into the mid-80s during the day, paired with rising humidity and gusty winds.
The storms may develop rapidly during the overnight hours, particularly after 1 a.m. Monday, posing a risk for localized flooding and reduced visibility on I-135, U.S. Route 54, and city roads. Wichita residents are advised to secure outdoor items and monitor alerts in case of severe weather warnings.
Other cities in the region, including Derby, Newton, and Hutchinson, may also see scattered showers with thunderstorm activity through early next week. Monday’s high of 86°F will mark one of the warmest days of the month so far, adding energy to storm development.
Storm chances taper off by Tuesday, but minor rain is still possible. Another update from the NWS is expected by Sunday morning.
