Wichita, Kansas – Scattered thunderstorms could develop across Kansas through the weekend, bringing threats of small hail and wind gusts up to 50 mph, especially in southeast areas like Chanute and Coffeyville.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, the best chances for storms arrive Friday afternoon and again late tonight into Saturday, mainly across southeastern Kansas. While most locations will stay dry, isolated strong storms may develop with enough intensity to briefly disrupt travel or outdoor plans.

Highs will climb into the upper 80s and low 90s statewide, with the warmest conditions in western and southern counties such as Dodge City and Harper. Overnight lows will stay mild in the mid-60s. Storm chances peak Saturday evening, with a 30% probability across the region. Storms, if they form, may feature brief downpours, lightning, and hazardous wind gusts.

Residents planning outdoor events should remain weather-aware, particularly in southeastern Kansas. Stay indoors during lightning, secure loose outdoor items, and have a plan if storms develop quickly.

Storm risks taper by Sunday, but isolated activity may persist. Updates from the NWS will continue as confidence in storm timing increases.
