Dodge City, Kansas – Rainfall continues to sweep through southwest Kansas this afternoon, moving north-northwest, with additional downpours expected into the evening. Many areas, including parts of Elkhart and Johnson City, have already seen up to a half-inch of rain, with additional amounts of up to a quarter-inch likely through the evening.

According to the National Weather Service, rainfall is expected to develop across wider areas of southwest Kansas, impacting regions from Garden City to Dodge City and beyond. The heaviest rain, totaling between a half-inch and an inch, could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas and along roadways. The storms are expected to continue moving across the area until around 7 p.m. tonight.

Travelers in southwest Kansas should be cautious of slick roads and reduced visibility, particularly along U.S. Highway 50 and Kansas Highway 27. Communities like Ulysses and Sublette may see further rainfall that could cause temporary disruptions to outdoor activities and commuting. Drivers are urged to slow down and avoid unnecessary travel if conditions worsen.

Additional updates will follow as rainfall progresses through the region, with flood advisories possible if heavier rainfall accumulations continue into the night.
