Wichita, KS – A cold night is settling in across much of Kansas, but forecasters say a noticeable warm-up is right around the corner, bringing above-normal temperatures back by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, overnight lows tonight will drop into the upper teens to low 20s across central, south-central, and southeast Kansas. Communities including Wichita, Hutchinson, Salina, Emporia, Chanute, and Coffeyville are expected to wake up to a chilly start Monday morning.

Despite the cold overnight temperatures, conditions improve quickly during the day. Monday will turn mostly sunny but breezy, with afternoon highs rebounding into the mid-40s to low 50s.

The warming trend continues into Tuesday, when highs climb into the mid-50s to near 60 degrees, returning temperatures to above normal for mid-December. Wednesday remains mild as well, with highs reaching the upper 50s to low 60s, though breezy conditions may persist.

Forecasters note that while the air warms significantly during the afternoons, cool mornings will continue, so residents should plan for layered clothing, especially during early commutes.

No significant precipitation is expected through midweek, making for quiet and dry travel conditions across the region.

Residents are encouraged to take precautions against the cold tonight, then prepare for rapidly changing temperatures as the workweek progresses.
