Dodge City, Kan. – Hot and breezy weather will settle over southwest Kansas on Wednesday, with afternoon highs pushing into the low 90s and sustained winds reaching up to 25 mph in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, temperatures will climb to 94°F in Hill City, Osborne, and Meade, with most other towns across the region — including Garden City, Liberal, and Ulysses — ranging from 88°F to 93°F. Winds will blow steadily from the south at 10 to 15 mph in central areas, increasing to 20 to 25 mph across the far southwest.

Drivers should watch for strong crosswinds, especially along U.S. Highways 83 and 56 near Elkhart, Syracuse, and Ulysses. While skies will remain clear and dry, the combination of heat and wind raises fire weather concerns in more rural, grassy areas.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours. Secure loose outdoor items that may blow away in gusty conditions.

Temperatures are expected to stay elevated through the holiday weekend. The National Weather Service may issue heat or wind advisories if conditions intensify.
