Dodge City, Kansas – Storms building across southwest Kansas this afternoon could bring damaging winds, localized flooding, and small hail, particularly after 3 p.m. Wednesday and into the overnight hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, isolated severe storms are likely in counties along the Colorado border, including Morton, Stevens, and Seward. Wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph, with heavy rainfall increasing the chance for flooding in low-lying areas and poor-drainage zones.
The strongest storm potential aligns with a marginal severe weather risk—Level 1 out of 5—primarily in the far southwest corner of the state. Meanwhile, a Level 2 excessive rainfall outlook highlights potential for isolated to scattered flooding in the same region. Rainfall rates may exceed one inch per hour in some cells.
Residents should avoid driving through flooded roads, secure loose outdoor items, and keep phones charged in case of power outages. Those in vulnerable areas should monitor local alerts closely as the storm threat evolves.
Storms are expected to taper off late tonight, but another round of activity could develop later this week.
