Dodge City, Kan. – A damp and unseasonably cool pattern will settle over southwest Kansas late this week as rounds of rain and scattered thunderstorms develop from Thursday night through Saturday. Temperatures will stay well below normal, with highs mainly in the 50s and lower 60s.

According to the National Weather Service office in Dodge City, a slow-moving disturbance will draw moisture northward, bringing a 50–80% chance of rainfall totals above a half inch east of Highway 283. The best potential for heavier rain will be across Pratt, Medicine Lodge, and Coldwater, where locally higher totals could develop under training thunderstorms.

Rain and occasional rumbles of thunder are expected to continue through much of Saturday before tapering west to east Saturday night. While severe weather is not anticipated, lightning and brief downpours may impact travel and outdoor events, including high school football games and weekend harvest operations. Rural roads could become muddy, and visibility may be reduced in heavier bursts.

The wet stretch will be followed by a gradual drying trend on Sunday with some sunshine returning, though temperatures will remain on the cool side for late October.
