DODGE CITY, Kan. – Southwest Kansas will wake up to its chilliest morning of the season Sunday, as light winds and clear skies allow temperatures to drop near the freezing mark. The National Weather Service in Dodge City has issued a Frost Advisory in effect until 10 a.m. CDT Sunday for much of western and southwest Kansas, including Garden City, Liberal, Cimarron, Meade, and Scott City.

According to the Weather Service, overnight lows around 33 degrees will lead to widespread frost formation across open farmland and sheltered valleys. Frost is likely to appear on rooftops, vehicles, and lawns by sunrise, particularly in Gray, Meade, Finney, and Kearny counties.

Officials warned that unprotected garden plants and late-season crops may be damaged or killed. Residents are urged to cover sensitive vegetation, bring potted plants indoors, and disconnect garden hoses before temperatures fall. Local agricultural agencies noted this frost will likely mark the end of the 2025 growing season for much of southwest Kansas.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will rebound into the 60s by Sunday afternoon under clear skies, followed by another cool but dry night.
