Dodge City, Kansas – Heavy rain will continue to impact southwest Kansas today, with rainfall expected to taper off by early evening. As of the latest updates from the National Weather Service, widespread rainfall has already begun and will continue throughout the day, easing in the evening hours from west to east.
According to the NWS, the rainfall totals will range from less than half an inch west of Highway 283 to up to 1/2 inch or more east of the highway. In particular, areas closer to the highlighted zone in the NWS map may experience heavier rain. Localized ponding of water is also expected in low-lying areas, where drainage systems may struggle to keep up with the volume of water.
Travelers should be cautious on roads, especially in areas prone to poor drainage, as slick spots and puddling may create hazardous conditions. Flash flooding is not expected, but standing water could slow down traffic.
Rain is expected to taper off by this evening, with the heaviest precipitation moving out by tonight. Be sure to stay updated on local advisories, as the storm system is expected to clear by tomorrow morning.
