Wichita, KS – A stretch of wet weather is set to return to central, south-central, and southeast Kansas beginning Wednesday night and continuing through Friday, bringing much-needed rainfall to the region, according to the National Weather Service in Wichita.
Overnight temperatures will fall into the mid-30s to lower 40s, with areas of fog developing around Emporia, Salina, and Topeka. Drivers should use caution during the morning commute.
Rain chances increase late Wednesday night, especially across southeast Kansas, where the first wave of showers and storms is expected to develop. Highs Wednesday will range from 62–70 degrees.
More numerous showers arrive Thursday and Friday, with the most widespread coverage focused across southern Kansas. Thursday’s highs will run 60–68 degrees, cooling slightly on Friday into the upper 40s to upper 60s, depending on location.
Forecasters say the upcoming rainfall will be beneficial, with widespread totals between ½ inch and 1 inch, and higher pockets possible where thunderstorms track repeatedly. The wettest conditions are expected Friday across southern counties.
No severe storms are anticipated at this time, but locally heavy downpours may briefly reduce visibility.
