WICHITA, Kan. – Thunderstorms are set to rumble across central and eastern Kansas late Wednesday into Thursday, raising concerns for hail, flooding, and dangerous driving conditions. Travelers along I-35 near Wichita should prepare for possible delays and sudden heavy rainfall through Thursday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, storm activity will increase across central Kansas by Thursday morning and linger into Thursday night. Some storms could turn strong, producing quarter-size hail, 50 to 60 mph winds, and brief flooding in low-lying areas. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways, secure outdoor items, and monitor weather alerts closely.

The most intense storms may develop late Thursday, particularly in areas west of the Flint Hills. Localized flooding could affect commutes and rural roads, while power outages remain possible with stronger cells. Spotter activation is not planned at this time, but officials stress conditions could quickly change if storms strengthen.

The active fall weather pattern may stick around through early next week. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to redevelop over the weekend, though forecasters say timing and severity remain uncertain. Still, residents should be prepared for unsettled weather lasting into early next week.
