Wichita, Kansas – Wichita residents should prepare for a significant warm-up starting this Juneteenth, Thursday, June 19. Temperatures will climb, bringing sunny and breezy conditions across the state. This shift marks the beginning of an extended period of high temperatures.

According to the National Weather Service, multiple hazards remain in effect for the region today. Wednesday, June 18, will see a high of 84°F with decreasing clouds. Winds will be from the northwest at 7 to 10 mph. Tonight, expect mostly clear skies with a low around 67°F. Winds will become calm in the evening.

Juneteenth, Thursday, June 19, will be sunny with a high near 91°F. Calm winds will become south at 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon. Thursday night remains clear, with a low around 73°F. South-southeast winds of 10 to 13 mph are expected, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Drivers on I-135 and I-235 should be aware of these breezy conditions.

The heat intensifies by Friday, June 20, with sunny and breezy conditions pushing temperatures to a high of 96°F. Southwest winds between 13 and 20 mph, with gusts up to 31 mph, will add to the breezy feel. Friday night stays clear and breezy, with a low around 76°F.

Residents should take precautions against the heat. Drink plenty of water and stay in air-conditioned spaces. Limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day. Check on vulnerable neighbors and pets. Secure loose outdoor items due to the increased wind gusts.
