Wichita, Kan. – Dangerous heat and the threat of severe thunderstorms will continue across much of Kansas through Tuesday night, raising concerns for travel, outdoor events, and power demands. Temperatures climbing into the upper 90s with heat indices topping 100 degrees could impact Central, South Central, and Southeast Kansas.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible Tuesday afternoon into the evening, with the strongest cells capable of producing damaging wind gusts. Wichita, Hutchinson, Salina, and McPherson are among the areas most at risk for storm development during peak heating hours.

After a sweltering Tuesday, conditions briefly calm midweek as drier air moves in Wednesday through Friday. Highs will remain hot, near 90 degrees, but storm chances stay low until the weekend, when another round of scattered thunderstorms is expected to return across the region.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, stay hydrated, and secure loose outdoor objects that could be blown around in high winds. Officials also caution drivers to watch for sudden downpours and reduced visibility Tuesday evening.

Storm chances are expected to increase again by the weekend and may persist into early next week.
