Wichita, KS – Residents across central and south-central Kansas should be alert for possible thunderstorms late tonight into Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Wichita. Forecasters say a few storms may develop after midnight, with the highest chances around Wichita, Salina, Hutchinson, and nearby areas.
According to the NWS update posted Wednesday morning, storm probabilities range from 12% to 18%, peaking near Salina and Wichita. While most activity is expected to remain isolated, the agency warns that hail near quarter-size could occur in stronger cells. A strong or severe storm cannot be ruled out, forecasters noted.
Temperatures will stay mild, with overnight lows between 54–57°F and daytime highs from 68–76°F, warmest across southeast Kansas.
Drivers and early commuters Thursday morning should stay aware of changing weather and check for radar updates, especially along I-135 and Highway 54 corridors where isolated storms could briefly impact travel.
Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts overnight for any storm warnings or hail alerts that may be issued.
