Kansas – Roads across Wichita could turn slick before sunrise as a growing area of rain and storms moves in overnight, following a breezy and warm day.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, morning fog will clear quickly, giving way to gusty conditions and highs between 75 and 80 degrees today. Winds will pick up through the afternoon, signaling a shift toward a more active pattern.
The main concern arrives late tonight. Rain and thunderstorms are expected to develop and spread across central and south-central Kansas after midnight, with the highest chances east of the Kansas Turnpike. Areas including Wichita, Hutchinson, Winfield, and Emporia face rain probabilities between 50 and 90 percent.
Drivers along I-35, the Kansas Turnpike, and U.S. 54 should prepare for wet pavement and reduced visibility during the early morning hours Sunday. While widespread severe weather is not expected, a few storms could produce brief heavy rain and lightning.
By Sunday, showers and storms may linger into the day, especially across eastern Kansas. Highs will range from the low 70s to low 80s depending on cloud cover and rainfall.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items today and plan for changing conditions overnight. Charge devices and allow extra travel time Sunday morning if storms are ongoing.
The unsettled pattern continues into early next week with additional chances for rain across the region.
