Wichita, Kan. – Sunshine will dominate Kansas skies through Thursday, but changes arrive by the weekend as thunderstorms make a return. After a stretch of hot, dry weather, residents should prepare for off-and-on storms beginning Friday night and lasting into early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, storm chances will first develop late Friday with isolated activity, then expand across central and south-central Kansas through Saturday and Sunday. Rain chances continue into Monday, with the best window for widespread showers Sunday night into early Tuesday.

While severe weather is not expected at this time, forecasters note that brief downpours and gusty winds could accompany stronger cells. Wichita, Hutchinson, and El Dorado are likely to see the first round of showers by Saturday afternoon, while heavier activity may push east toward Emporia and Parsons into Sunday.

Drivers should be prepared for wet roads during weekend travel, particularly along I-35 and U.S. 54. Outdoor plans on Saturday and Sunday may need backup options as storms roll through.

More updates are expected later this week as storm timing and intensity become clearer.
