Dodge City, KS – The National Weather Service in Dodge City is warning residents of a windy stretch midweek, with gusts potentially reaching up to 50 mph across parts of western Kansas on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Forecasters said Monday and Thursday will feature calmer winds between 5–15 mph, but a strong pressure gradient developing midweek will lead to sustained winds of 20–30 mph, with higher gusts possible.
Communities including Dodge City, Garden City, Hays, and Liberal could experience the strongest winds during the afternoon hours Tuesday and Wednesday. The NWS advises residents to secure outdoor furniture, decorations, and lightweight items that could be blown away.
Travel may also be affected, particularly for high-profile vehicles on north-south highways such as U.S. 283 and U.S. 83, where crosswinds could make driving hazardous.
Conditions are expected to ease by Thursday, returning to lighter breezes as temperatures hold steady in the upper 50s to low 60s.
