Wichita, KS – Residents across central and southeast Kansas should prepare for gusty winds and a return of storm chances beginning this weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Wichita.
The agency issued a hazardous weather outlook Thursday morning, noting that isolated thunderstorms may occur today, particularly along the I-135 corridor and Flint Hills. While severe weather is not anticipated, unsettled conditions will build heading into the weekend.
According to forecasters, southerly winds of 45 to 50 mph are possible Saturday afternoon across portions of central Kansas. The gusty conditions could impact drivers, especially on north-south highways, and pose challenges for outdoor events.
Storm chances are expected to increase by Sunday evening and continue intermittently through Wednesday. While widespread severe storms are not in the immediate forecast, residents should stay alert for changing conditions, especially with outdoor plans or travel early next week.
Daytime highs will remain unseasonably warm, ranging from the mid-80s Friday through Sunday, before dipping slightly into the upper 70s early next week.
The National Weather Service advises monitoring updated forecasts and being prepared for rapidly shifting weather. No storm spotter activation is anticipated for Thursday or tonight.
