WICHITA, Kan. – Fall’s mild streak pauses this weekend as unstable air builds across south-central Kansas, setting the stage for scattered thunderstorms from Saturday afternoon through Saturday night. While not all areas will see storms, those along and southeast of the Kansas Turnpike should prepare for gusty winds and brief downpours.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, the strongest storms could produce small hail and winds up to 60 mph. Drivers along I-35, especially between Emporia and Wellington, should stay alert for reduced visibility and ponding on roadways. Outdoor events, including local pumpkin patches and fall festivals, may face brief weather disruptions during peak afternoon hours.

By Sunday, skies clear and temperatures rebound into the upper 60s, providing a calm and sunny finish to the weekend. The mild weather continues into early next week, ideal for yard cleanup, decorating for Halloween, or fall park visits.

No major cold snaps are expected through midweek, but forecasters say breezy afternoons could return by Wednesday as another weak system approaches from the west. Farmers and gardeners can continue fieldwork with confidence after the brief wet spell passes.

Five-Day Outlook for Wichita, Kansas:
Friday: Partly sunny, high near 84°F, isolated morning storms.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, high near 79°F, storms late day.
Sunday: Sunny, high near 67°F, calm winds.
Monday: Sunny, warmer, high near 78°F.
Tuesday: Clear skies, high near 68°F, light breeze building midweek.
