Wichita, Kansas – Storms developing along a weak cold front could bring gusty winds and small hail to parts of Kansas Monday afternoon through early Tuesday morning, especially in the north and west.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, areas like Russell (70% chance) and Salina (54%) have the highest risk for storms, which may include 50 mph downburst winds, brief heavy rain, and isolated hail. The threat window begins around 2 p.m. Monday and continues through 7 a.m. Tuesday.

While the Wichita metro area faces only an 11% chance of storms, residents in Hutchinson (25%) and Pratt (26%) should stay alert for changing conditions. Farther east, cities like Topeka (38%) and Emporia (19%) may also see scattered showers but with less intensity.

Outdoor plans should be monitored closely, especially in higher-risk zones. The NWS advises having a shelter plan ready and staying updated via local alerts.

The strongest storms are not expected to reach southeast Kansas, including Coffeyville and Chanute, where chances remain near zero.

More updates are likely Monday as the front pushes through. Severe weather alerts could follow if conditions intensify.
