Dodge City, Kansas – Strong overnight storms battered southwest Kansas, leaving behind hail, wind damage, and possible tornado activity, and now the National Weather Service is calling on residents to help assess the damage.

According to the NWS office in Dodge City, the severe storms passed through late last night into early this morning, bringing damaging winds, large hail, and reports of flooding in low-lying areas. Officials are asking the public to submit any weather-related observations, especially measurements of hail (regardless of size), wind damage to trees or buildings, funnel clouds, and flooding impacts on roads.

Reports should include the exact time and location of the observed event. Examples: “Around 5:30 p.m.” or “5 miles east of your town.” Observers should note the size of hail using common references like a quarter or golf ball, and any visual rotation if funnel clouds or tornadoes were spotted.

Communities across Ford, Clark, and Meade counties are most affected, but surrounding areas may also have experienced severe conditions. Travel could still be hazardous on rural routes and county roads.

Further alerts may be issued if damage assessments reveal broader impacts. Residents should stay weather-aware and continue submitting reports through the day.
