Dodge City, Kansas – A line of powerful thunderstorms is set to slam western Kansas through midnight, bringing threats of damaging winds, large hail, and isolated power outages to rural communities and major highways. Residents in Clark, Finney, Ford, and neighboring counties should prepare for hazardous conditions as storms intensify after sunset.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 12 a.m. for 19 counties from Clark to Wichita County. Meteorologists warn that wind gusts over 60 mph and hail up to two inches in diameter could accompany the strongest cells, particularly near Dodge City, Garden City, and U.S. Highway 50.

Emergency officials urge drivers to avoid unnecessary travel, as quick-moving storms may produce sudden low visibility and road flooding on rural routes. Power outages and downed branches are possible, especially in Grant, Hamilton, and Ness counties. Residents should secure outdoor items and have flashlights and chargers ready in case of outages.

Storms are expected to gradually weaken after midnight, but additional advisories could be issued if conditions remain volatile into Monday morning.
