Dodge City, KS – A strong autumn storm system is forecast to sweep across western Kansas on Monday, bringing the potential for severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, the system will move out of Colorado into Kansas during the day Monday, September 22, and continue into Monday night. Forecasters say the setup could lead to organized severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rain.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of western Kansas, including Dodge City, Garden City, and Liberal, under a slight risk for severe weather on Monday. Meanwhile, the Weather Prediction Center has issued a marginal risk for excessive rainfall, meaning localized flash flooding cannot be ruled out, especially in low-lying areas.
Residents across southwest and central Kansas are advised to remain weather aware as storms develop. Forecasters urge drivers to use caution, as heavy downpours may cause reduced visibility and slick roads during the evening commute and overnight hours.
The strongest storms are expected Monday afternoon through late evening, with conditions gradually improving Tuesday morning.
