Dodge City, KS – Just 24 hours after a blizzard swept through parts of southwest Kansas, temperatures are rebounding sharply into the mid-50s and mid-60s today. The sudden warm-up, combined with gusty winds and low humidity, is raising fire weather concerns across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, southwest winds will sustain speeds of 10-25 mph, with gusts reaching up to 30 mph, especially in western parts of the state. With dry air in place, fire danger is elevated, prompting a Red Flag Warning for western counties through the evening.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and be cautious with any fire sources. The dramatic temperature swing follows a winter storm that blanketed parts of the state with snow, underscoring Kansas’ rapidly changing spring weather patterns.

High temperatures today are expected to reach 64°F in Liberal, 63°F in Syracuse, and 62°F in Meade, while areas like Dodge City and Hays will see highs in the upper 50s. The warm spell is expected to persist through midweek.
