Dodge City, Kansas – Rain chances will increase across southwest Kansas overnight, setting up a wet start to Thursday with the highest likelihood of steady rainfall during the morning hours, especially across south-central parts of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, light rain is expected to develop late tonight, with the most widespread and persistent rainfall occurring between about 6 a.m. and noon Thursday. Rainfall totals are expected to remain generally light, with most locations picking up less than a quarter inch, though some communities could see between a tenth and a quarter inch during the morning.

Cities including Dodge City, Garden City, Liberal, Pratt, and Medicine Lodge are most likely to see rain during the morning commute, which could lead to slick roads and reduced visibility at times. Farther west toward Elkhart and Syracuse, rain chances are lower, though spotty showers remain possible. Areas along and east of U.S. 281 have the best opportunity for measurable rainfall.

Rain coverage is expected to decrease through the afternoon, with showers tapering off by early evening as the system exits the region. No severe weather is anticipated, but drivers are encouraged to slow down on wet roadways and allow extra travel time Thursday morning.

Additional updates may be issued overnight if rainfall coverage or timing shifts, particularly for south-central Kansas where the highest totals are expected.
