Wichita, KS – A surge of heat is sweeping across Kansas Thursday, with temperatures expected to climb into the low to mid-90s across much of the state before cooler, wetter conditions arrive heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible Wednesday night, especially near Hutchinson, Emporia, and Topeka. Overnight lows will range from the upper 50s in Russell to the mid-60s in Chanute and Coffeyville. Thursday will bring the warmest temperatures of the week, with highs between 86°F and 94°F, particularly across the Flint Hills region.

By Friday afternoon, southeast Kansas will begin to see increased rain chances, with storms likely developing later in the day and continuing into Saturday. Highs will drop significantly into the low 60s to upper 70s on Friday, and further to the mid-50s by Saturday.

Residents in southeast Kansas—including Chanute, Coffeyville, and surrounding areas—should remain weather-aware through Saturday, as rain and thunderstorms could disrupt outdoor plans and travel.

To stay safe, monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local news for alerts, avoid flooded roads, and secure outdoor items ahead of strong winds Thursday.
