Wichita, KS – Kansas residents are preparing for a prolonged period of intense summer heat that is expected to persist through Monday. Forecasts indicate that afternoon temperatures will consistently exceed 100 degrees, with heat indexes soaring above 108 degrees in some areas.
According to the US National Weather Service in Wichita, a heat advisory is in effect for central, south central, and southeast Kansas. Sunday will see high temperatures ranging from 99 to 107 degrees with a heat index between 103 and 108 degrees. Monday is projected to be equally sweltering, with highs from 100 to 108 degrees and similar heat indexes.
On Tuesday, the hottest conditions are expected in southern Kansas, with highs ranging from 93 to 103 degrees. By Tuesday night, a shift in weather patterns is anticipated, bringing cooler temperatures and a chance of showers and storms.
The forecast for Wednesday predicts a notable drop in temperatures, with highs between 83 and 89 degrees and a 40% chance of rain. This cooling trend is expected to continue into the latter part of the week, providing much-needed relief from the extreme heat.
