Dodge City, Kansas – Drivers across south central and southwest Kansas could face hazardous road conditions starting Friday morning as a winter storm brings accumulating snow and strong winds into the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Pawnee, Stafford, Gray, Hodgeman, Ford, Edwards, Kiowa, Pratt, Meade, Clark, Comanche, and Barber counties. Snow is expected to begin light Friday morning before becoming moderate to heavy through Saturday night, with totals of 4 to 7 inches possible in the higher elevations. Wind gusts up to 30 mph may lead to blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility at times.

Communities including Dodge City, Pratt, Greensburg, Cimarron, Larned, Coldwater, Ashland, Medicine Lodge, and Stafford are all within the watch area. Key routes such as U.S. 50, U.S. 54, U.S. 56, and U.S. 283 could become slick, particularly during the Friday morning and evening commutes.

Residents are encouraged to plan ahead, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavier snow, and keep emergency supplies in vehicles. Charging devices and checking road conditions before heading out is advised.

The storm may evolve as it develops, and additional advisories or warnings could be issued. Updates are expected through Thursday as confidence in snowfall amounts increases.
