Wichita, Kan. – Heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms are set to continue across Kansas overnight into Sunday, raising concerns for flooding in low-lying areas and difficult travel conditions. Some storms may briefly intensify, bringing localized downpours.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, scattered storms will remain in the region through much of the week, with rain chances lingering until Friday. While severe weather is not expected, the heaviest activity could produce standing water on roads and isolated flooding issues, particularly in South Central and Southeast Kansas.

Wichita, Hutchinson, and Newton will see the highest risk for heavy rain through Sunday morning, with rainfall chances continuing into Labor Day. Areas from Cowley County to Montgomery County could also see ponding water and reduced visibility during commutes.

Travelers are urged to use caution, as water can quickly cover roads overnight and into the early morning hours. Drivers are reminded not to attempt crossing flooded roadways. Those in flood-prone areas should monitor conditions closely and keep devices charged in case of power outages.

Storm activity is expected to taper midweek, with drier conditions and sunnier skies returning by Tuesday before additional scattered storms redevelop Wednesday night.
