Dodge City, Kansas – Scattered strong storms could drench parts of western Kansas this afternoon, with the highest risk between 3 and 10 p.m. Tuesday bringing damaging winds, localized flooding, and up to 1-inch hail.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, areas including Garden City, Ulysses, and Tribune sit in the zone of greatest concern. Winds may gust as high as 60 mph, and while tornadoes are not expected, brief intense downpours and hail could impact travel and outdoor plans.

Drivers along US-83 and US-50 should be alert for sudden visibility drops and water pooling on roads. Localized flash flooding is possible in low-lying areas, especially near Goessel, Syracuse, and Leoti. Emergency managers urge residents to secure loose objects, check drainage areas, and delay evening travel if storms intensify.

The storms are fueled by late-day heating and a moist air mass moving northeast across the High Plains. While most activity will taper off after 10 p.m., additional weather alerts may be issued if storm cells redevelop.

Stay tuned to local alerts and prepare for changing conditions through the evening.
