Dodge City, Kansas – Southwest Kansas faces its hottest day of the week Tuesday, as temperatures surge into the upper 90s and even reach triple digits in some cities by late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, afternoon highs will climb to 97°F–100°F across the region by 4 p.m., with the hottest spots including Lamar, Ashland, and Dodge City itself. Elevated humidity—with dewpoints in the mid-60s—will drive heat indices close to or above 100°F, especially for those working or spending time outdoors.

Residents in Hays, Garden City, and Liberal can expect temperatures between 97°F and 99°F, while communities along U.S. 50 and U.S. 283, including Kinsley and Ness City, should also brace for oppressive afternoon heat. The high humidity will make conditions feel even warmer, raising concerns for heat exhaustion and dehydration.

Officials advise Kansans to avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat, take frequent breaks in air conditioning, and stay hydrated. If you must be outside, wear lightweight clothing and never leave children or pets in vehicles.

The heat is expected to ease slightly later in the week, but advisories remain possible as summer conditions continue. Stay tuned for updates and keep an eye out for any new heat warnings from local agencies.
