Winfield, KS – A Flood Watch has been issued for much of South Central and Southeast Kansas, including Winfield, Parsons, and Chanute, beginning Friday evening and continuing through Sunday night. Thunderstorms moving through the region could bring heavy rainfall, raising the risk of localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service office in Topeka, the watch covers Cowley, Elk, Wilson, Neosho, Chautauqua, Montgomery, and Labette counties. Forecasters say storms may produce between 2 and 4 inches of rain across the region, increasing runoff into rivers, creeks, and flood-prone areas.

Residents in low-lying areas and near waterways are urged to prepare for potential flooding. Drivers should avoid water-covered roads and remain alert for rising water overnight and during the weekend. Emergency officials advise monitoring updated forecasts and being ready to act if a Flood Warning is issued.

This weather pattern aligns with seasonal spring conditions, but forecasters note the volume and pace of expected rainfall could strain drainage systems. The Flood Watch is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday through 7 p.m. Sunday. Stay informed through local alerts and the National Weather Service for the latest updates.
