Kansas Weather Alert: Flash Flooding Hits Gove County Overnight Through Early Thursday

Quinter, Kansas – Heavy rain from overnight thunderstorms is causing localized flooding in Gove County early Thursday, prompting a Flood Advisory through 3:30 a.m. CDT.

According to the National Weather Service in Goodland, Doppler radar detected intense downpours moving across the area shortly after 1:30 a.m. Minor flooding is expected in low-lying spots and areas with poor drainage, especially near Quinter and Park.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads overnight, as even shallow water can stall vehicles or wash them off roadways. Emergency officials remind residents: Turn around, don’t drown.

Local creeks and storm drains may overflow temporarily as rainfall rates continue to exceed normal capacity. Residents in flood-prone neighborhoods should monitor conditions and be prepared to move to higher ground if water levels rise quickly.

While the advisory ends by 3:30 a.m., lingering puddles and soft shoulders may create slick travel conditions into the Thursday morning commute. Additional alerts could be issued if heavy rain continues or storms redevelop.
