Dodge City, KS – The first frost of the fall season is expected to form overnight across southwest and west-central Kansas, as temperatures drop into the mid-30s under clear skies and calm winds, according to the National Weather Service in Dodge City.
A Frost Advisory is in effect from midnight (11 p.m. MDT) through 10 a.m. CDT Sunday, covering areas such as Garden City, Liberal, Elkhart, Syracuse, and Dighton. Forecasters expect temperatures between 33°F and 37°F, cold enough to produce widespread frost that may damage or kill sensitive vegetation.
Residents are urged to cover tender plants, bring potted flowers indoors, and protect garden crops before temperatures dip late tonight.
The NWS notes that the coldest spots will occur near and along U.S. Route 83, where clear skies and light winds will allow maximum cooling. Frost should melt by mid-morning Sunday as temperatures rebound into the 50s.
