Wichita, KS – Breezy winds and near-record warmth are combining to create elevated fire risks across Kansas through Saturday, with highs climbing into the 90s in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, unseasonably warm temperatures are forecast across the state, with western Kansas cities like Dodge City and Wakeeney expected to hit 90°F. Central locations including Hutchinson and Great Bend will reach the mid-80s, while Wichita and surrounding areas should see highs near 79°F.

Strong south winds will gust through the region Saturday afternoon, further elevating fire danger, particularly across western and central counties. Officials warn residents to avoid outdoor burning and be cautious with open flames or equipment that may spark in dry areas.

Sunday will remain warm, with highs ranging from 82°F to 87°F statewide. However, a brief cool-down is forecast for Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures dropping into the 60s and low 70s. These values remain above average for mid-April but will provide some temporary relief.

Residents should stay updated via local emergency channels and limit outdoor activities in fire-prone areas this weekend. Fire departments across Kansas remain on heightened alert as dry, breezy conditions persist into Sunday evening.
