Wichita, Kansas – Triple-digit heat index values are set to return Monday, July 28, as Wichita braces for another sweltering afternoon across the Sunflower State.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Monday across Central and South-Central Kansas, including Sedgwick, Butler, Reno, Harvey, and Kingman counties. Afternoon heat index values could reach as high as 106°F, with ambient highs around 98°F. Gusty south winds up to 20 mph may offer brief relief, but the risk of heat exhaustion remains high.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor activity between noon and 6 p.m., stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Drivers on I-135 and US-54 should anticipate vehicle strain and reduce travel during peak heat hours.
Looking ahead, Wichita could see temperatures hold near the mid-to-upper 90s through Tuesday, with scattered thunderstorms possible starting Wednesday. Although storm chances are low early in the week, the potential for stronger thunderstorms with heavy rain increases by midweek into the weekend.
