Wichita, Kansas – Relentless summer heat will grip much of Kansas starting Saturday, with highs soaring past 100°F in Wichita, Hutchinson, and surrounding areas through early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, central and south-central Kansas will see daily highs between 94°F and 103°F from Saturday through Tuesday. Today will be the last moderate day, with isolated thunderstorms and highs ranging from 89°F to 96°F. By Saturday, any remaining rain chances vanish as dry, sunny skies dominate the extended forecast.
Cities including McPherson, El Dorado, and Newton should prepare for potentially dangerous heat indices, especially in the afternoon hours. The NWS warns that prolonged exposure could pose health risks for outdoor workers, the elderly, and young children. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
No significant rain chances are expected through Tuesday. This marks one of the hottest stretches of the summer so far for south-central Kansas.
Heat advisories may be issued if temperatures continue trending upward. Updates are expected as conditions evolve.
