Dodge City, KS – Temperatures are set to surge into the mid to upper 90s by Saturday afternoon, with some areas near the Oklahoma border approaching 100 degrees during peak heating hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, this will be the hottest day of an unusual March heat wave, with widespread highs between 92 and 96 degrees expected by around 4 p.m. The heat, combined with very dry air, will create an elevated risk for dehydration and rapid fire spread across southwest Kansas.

Communities including Dodge City, Garden City, Liberal, and Guymon will experience the most intense heat Saturday afternoon. Dry conditions and strong sun exposure could quickly impact outdoor activities, especially along major routes like U.S. 50 and U.S. 83.

By late Saturday night into Sunday morning, a strong cold front will move through, shifting winds to the north and bringing gusts that could exceed 40 mph. Temperatures will drop significantly Sunday, offering relief but also creating blowing dust concerns in open areas.

Residents should limit outdoor activity during peak heat, stay hydrated, and avoid any activities that could spark fires. The heat will ease quickly Sunday, but additional advisories may be issued as conditions change.
