Manhattan, Kansas – Snow will spread across northeast Kansas by 6 p.m., creating slick and quickly changing road conditions through the overnight hours and into the Saturday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Topeka, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. this evening until 6 a.m. CST Saturday for Cloud, Clay, Riley, Ottawa, Dickinson and Geary counties.

Forecasters expect up to 2 inches of snow. Even light accumulation will reduce traction on untreated pavement as temperatures hover near freezing.

Road conditions will deteriorate after sunset.

Interstate 70 from Junction City to Abilene and U.S. Highway 77 near Manhattan and Clay Center may become snow-covered overnight. Rural roads around Concordia, Minneapolis and Herington could turn slick quickly.

The Saturday morning commute may be impacted before sunrise.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check kandrive.gov or call 511 for updated road conditions before traveling.

Snow tapers around daybreak Saturday, but isolated slick spots may linger into mid-morning. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. CST Saturday.
