Wichita, Kansas – Dry skies won’t last much longer across Kansas, as thunderstorms are expected to move back into the region starting late Thursday and continue off and on into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, after a stretch of warm, sunny weather through midweek, the pattern will shift Thursday night with the return of scattered thunderstorms. Storm chances will increase late Thursday and persist into Friday and Saturday, possibly continuing into early next week.
Cities across central and southern Kansas — including Hutchinson, Salina, and Wichita — should prepare for periods of heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds beginning Thursday night. High temperatures will dip slightly into the upper 60s and low 70s Friday before rebounding into the 80s by Saturday. Overnight lows will range from the upper 40s to mid-50s.
While the risk of severe storms remains uncertain, residents are urged to monitor weather updates, especially if planning outdoor events this weekend. Bring in loose outdoor items and have a way to receive alerts overnight.
More detailed timing and storm severity will become clearer later this week. Additional advisories or watches could be issued by Thursday afternoon.
