Wichita, Kansas – Storm chances are back for Kansas by Monday night, marking the start of an unsettled week for Wichita and surrounding counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, strong to severe thunderstorms could return after a brief lull Monday, especially across areas east of the Kansas Turnpike. These slow-moving systems are likely to bring heavy rain and isolated wind gusts, particularly late Tuesday into Wednesday. Sedgwick, Butler, and Cowley counties are in the primary impact zone.

Residents should monitor for updated alerts, as heavy downpours could lead to ponding on roads and low-lying areas. While no spotter activation is expected Sunday, conditions may change quickly by midweek. If you’re traveling along I-35 or U.S. Route 400 Tuesday evening, plan for delays and reduce speed during any downpours.

Monday will begin dry and sunny with a high of 90°F. Tuesday brings a high near 92°F, with storm chances rising late. Wednesday features a 40% chance of rain and thunder, followed by continued slight chances into Thursday and Friday.

⚠️ Preparedness Tip: Now’s a good time to check storm drains, charge devices, and review your family’s weather safety plan.
