Wichita, Kansas – Summer storms could bring hail and high winds to parts of Central Kansas on Tuesday, with Wichita residents urged to stay alert during peak afternoon hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop Tuesday afternoon, primarily north and west of the Kansas Turnpike. Some of these storms may be severe, producing wind gusts up to 65 mph and pockets of small hail. Rapid downpours could trigger localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas near I-135 and the Arkansas River basin.

While storm chances for Tuesday night are low, the overall pattern remains unsettled through the end of the week. Periodic storm chances continue Wednesday night through Friday, with a few strong systems possible. No widespread watches have been issued as of Monday morning, but weather conditions could evolve quickly.

Wichita’s high Tuesday is expected to reach 93°F under mostly sunny skies before clouds build later in the day. South winds may gust as high as 24 mph, adding a dry heat feel before any storms form. Residents are encouraged to secure loose items outdoors and monitor alerts from emergency management.
