Dodge City, Kansas – A line of storms is expected to build near the Colorado-Kansas border Wednesday night, bringing the highest storm chances to areas along and west of Highway 83 from 6 p.m. through midnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, the best odds for sub-severe storms—ranging from 50% to 60%—focus on Scott City, Garden City, and Dodge City, especially between 9 p.m. and midnight. Once the storms push east of Highway 83 after midnight, they are likely to weaken, making the rest of the region’s storm threat more uncertain and less likely to impact cities such as Hays and Pratt.

Drivers in southwest Kansas should prepare for possible lightning, gusty winds, and brief downpours tonight. Those traveling on Highway 83 or connecting routes are urged to monitor conditions closely and delay non-essential travel if thunderstorms intensify.

Most of the area’s storm risk is expected to diminish after midnight as activity fades. Stay tuned to local alerts, as additional advisories or updates may be issued through early Thursday morning.
