Wichita, KS – Strong thunderstorms are moving across Kansas today, bringing the potential for gusty winds, hail, and heavy rainfall that may cause localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, storms are expected to be most widespread early Tuesday, September 23, before gradually tapering off late Wednesday. Some of the stronger storms could produce nickel-size hail, damaging wind gusts, and periods of heavy rain.

High temperatures today will range from the upper 60s to mid-70s across much of the state, with the Wichita area forecast near 73 degrees. The heaviest storm activity is expected in south-central and eastern Kansas, including Wichita, Hutchinson, Salina, and Emporia.

Forecasters note that rain chances will diminish by late Wednesday, giving way to drier and warmer conditions. Highs are expected to climb into the mid-70s to near 80 on Thursday, and upper 70s to low 80s by Friday under mostly sunny skies.

Residents are advised to remain alert for possible localized flooding in low-lying areas and to monitor weather updates throughout the day.
